Computers have been around for a long time, but not in the form of the home computer as we know it today. They used to fill up entire rooms and were only used by military and government agencies to do heavy computing work for them that otherwise would have taken too long given the time constraints that these agencies were working under. Software used to come on a single floppy disc and would not be installed into the machine’s relatively small hard-disc. They would be used to help people learn how to type and there were even some small games that entertained the kids. Now, software is used for all sorts of things. Editing photos, downloading music, surfing the internet, keeping computers safe from hackers and anything else that can possibly be imagined. People rely on different kinds of software at home and at work each and every day. Even many web-based businesses require specific software packages to make their websites function.
